A fifty that keeps drawing after the light has gone.
One hundred and thirty-two ridges, cut into a single ring of anodised aluminium. A hundred and forty degrees of throw, damped in grease, with nothing electronic between your hand and the glass. You feel this lens before you ever look through it.
It is not a small lens and it does not pretend to be. It is the one you reach for at the end of the evening, when everyone else has packed up.
02 — Twelve parts, one axis
Nothing here is glued.
Every element, every ring and every blade seats along the same line. That is why the barrel comes apart in order rather than in pieces — and why a lens bought this year will still be worth servicing in twenty.
- 60 mm aspherical front element, ground and then polished to a quarter wave.
- Nine rounded blades. Circular wide open, and still circular at f/2.
- 132-ridge focus collar, 140° of linear, fully mechanical throw.
- De-clickable aperture ring. Detented for stills, silent for video.
- Sealed bayonet. Three tabs, seven contacts, one gasket.
03 — In use
782 grams, and none of it in the wrong place.
The mass sits behind the mount, where your hand already is. On a body it balances at the grip rather than hanging off the front, which is the difference between a lens you carry and a lens you leave at home.
Sealed at every joint, front ring included. The light worth having is almost never indoors.

Readable without the render.
Most award-winning 3D sites are invisible to Google: their content only exists after the JavaScript runs. This one is readable by search engines, link previews and screen readers. You keep the spectacle without trading away search.
- Every word of the four chapters above is in the HTML the server sends, in real headings and paragraphs. The canvas is a layer over that document, never the source of it.
- No WebGL, or reduced motion switched on: you get a poster and the whole text, fully navigable. Nothing is missing but the movement.
- No model file and no texture to download. The lens is twelve parts generated from primitives while the page loads — which is also why it starts in under a second.
- Stop scrolling and the scene keeps moving. The scroll drives the camera; the diaphragm, the roll and the teardown run on their own clocks. A scrubbed video cannot do that, and that is exactly how you tell the two apart.
